Angel of Mercy
According to Chapter Al-Kahf of the Holy Quran, during a journey, Moses (peace be upon him) met a creature sent by God. In the hadiths, the name of this creature is mentioned as Khizr. There is disagreement whether Khizr (peace be upon him) was a prophet or an angel. However, according to his actions described in Chapter Al-Kahf, in particular, the killing of a child and the damaging of orphans’ boat, show that these were acts of a divine nature that only an angel could do.
In the introduction of this creature, the words of Allah are quoted in the Holy Quran as follows:
“They found one of Our servants to whom We had granted Our mercy and had given a knowledge from Ourself” (Al Quran 18:65)
The main attribute of Hazrat Khizr which is described in this verse is that he was blessed by Allah Almighty’s special mercy. But on the other hand, when his deeds were revealed, mercy was not seen in them apparently, but evil with the good & innocents and goodness with the bad. So Moses (peace be upon him) asked him questions, in response to which when he opened the true wisdom of these events, it was known that God’s mercy had actually appeared on every occasion.
This incident shows that God’s mercy and angels of mercy in the world do not necessarily always appear in good circumstances. Sometimes the angel of mercy comes with trouble, but actually it is the manifestation of mercy. If the person is a believer, then this incident assures him that whenever something bad happens in life, it is done by an angel of mercy, not an angel of punishment. This truth was revealed to Moses in this world. This truth will be revealed to the common people on the Day of Resurrection.
